What is Cougar-Dating?
Cougars are women who know what they’re doing and know exactly what they’re looking for. They’re usually from the age of 30+, maybe going through a mid-life crisis, and on the prowl for something new and fun.
They’re age doesn’t usually take away from their attractiveness, because older-women are secure in themselves, radiant, and at their sexual peak. The most valuable assessment of ours are the practical experiments. It is during the practical experiments that we get a taste for what it’s like to be a user on the dating site. We make an experimental profile which allows us to get the realest Cougar Life experience possible. We have put out one male profile, and one female profile. This way, we can pick out differences on being on each side of the spectrum. We go through the site, trying out each feature and setting. We communicate with customer service and with other member as well, of course! Our goal through these experiments are always to figure out whether the site does what it says it can and whether it’s worth the subscription.
We take pride in being able to dig out each advantage and disadvantage! In this case, for Cougar Life.
2.1 Initial reaction to CougarLife
Our initial reaction after creating a subscription was that the website seemed trustworthy and sophisticated. We unfortunately couldn’t find many answers in regards to the platform’s usability. The FAQ section provides a little bit of help, but a more detailed tutorial would have been great. Helpful tips and tricks are available however, in the media section. It even contains a PDF that thoroughly describes Cougar Life: how to use it and how to get the most out of it.

The PDF also provides some cool stats concerning Cougar Life’s members. It states that every female member is single and uninvolved – 51% being divorced, 47% having never been married, and 2% being left widowed. Amazingly, 42% of the women on the site were divorced in just the past year. The document also states that 31% of female members are single moms. It also reads that the average age of cougar users is 39, while the average age toyboy users is 29.
CougarLife’s spokeswoman, Sabrina Rymarowics, has said:
“CougarLife was built on the fact that nowadays, there are many successful, confident and independent single-women who don't have a problem to start an affair or relationship with a significantly younger man.”
We were disappointed that we weren’t able to locate the cost of subscription anywhere before we registered. 2.2 Testing our Contacts on CougarLife
Our contact test was built to determine how active users on CougarLife are. This part is absolutely necessary in determining the overall value of the platform. You can only build a connection online if other members actively communicate with one another. Please note that messages from animators have not been considered! (refer to profile quality).

How does the contact test work?
- The test takes place over a period of one month (30 days from the creation of the premium membership profile)
- During this period, the number of successful contacts is counted.
- 50 contact attempts (messages/greetings) will be made and up to 50 will be counted if received.
- Incoming (passive) contact attempts are automatically counted as a successful contact.
- Outgoing (active) contact attempts only count as a successful contact if a positive response (a response that encourages you to continue the conversation) follows.
- A maximum of 50 points can be awarded for successful incoming contacts, and 50 for successful outgoing contacts.
- The result is denoted as x out of 100 points. For example: 78 successful contacts out of 100 attempts results in a score of 78/100.

3. Functions and Profiles on CougarLife
3.1 Quality of CougarLife’s Profile
It’s impossible to get lost in registration. You simply tell them whether you are searching for cougars or toyboys and what your age preference is. You also have the option of choosing which area you’d like to find them in. Then you upload information about you to your profile. They even have the option of completing this step with the help of Facebook, which makes the process super quick and simple.
- Throw in as many pictures as you look good in. Doing this increases your chances of a positive experience by a crazy amount. This is because other users will feel they can trust you since your profile seems complete and original.
- Include as much information about yourself as you can. The more information you put out there, the more likely it is another user will find you two have something in common. This sparks initial interest, and gives you guys something to talk about.

Privacy
The creators of Cougar Life ensure your profile is private and secure. Since, you know, it would be pretty terrible to have colleagues or acquaintances find you on the site. To ensure your profile stays safe, go into “My Profile” and then click “Privacy”. Now you can set your profile so you stay as anonymous as possible.

Cougar Life provides the option of having private pictures. Private pictures are pictures only visible to members you allow to see them. You can grant other members access to these pictures by providing them with a “key” to unlock them. Caution: If a key is given to you, an access to your private pictures will be given automatically to the other person. This feature can be disabled however, by changing your privacy settings (see picture above).

Fake Profiles
Cougar Life offers fairly good profile quality, and only seldom did we run into fake or scamming profiles. This is acceptable; it is a pretty normal circumstance that scammers create a fake dating profile with the intention of getting members to click into their website. Stay on the look-out for these guys! If you’re ever at all suspicious about a profile, make sure to block it!
You unfortunately can’t report a suspicious profile to Cougar Life, as neither manually or automatically do they look into this kind of stuff. It would definitely be a great next step in improving the platform. A service Cougar Life does offer though is a voluntary identity check so you can prove your identity. This helps others sort of the fake profiles from the real profiles. All in all, this area on Cougar Life needs some attention!
To distinguish a fake profile, find out whether the member is a premium member. In most cases, premium members are not fake as scammers avoid paying extra costs.
Animators
We want to let you know as well, that CougarLife has many animators on the platform. Animators are people who entertain by putting up a fake profile. CougarLife has implanted a system called Cougars CS™ in an attempt to rid the platform of animators, but keep your eyes open still. You may have to be a member on the site for a while to start recognizing the signs of fake profiles. Don’t fall for their tricks! The animators will probably send you messages and gifts, but do not go to meet them in person! This negative factor is quite small still, thanks to the fact that you can easily block animators from contacting you.
Don’t let fake animated profiles deceive you! In their terms, CougarLife says that these animators are only able to contact guest users, not paying members. Apparently, having a premium membership makes it impossible for animators to contact you. You can also change your settings so that no one can contact you but instead you have to initiate all communication.
3.2 CougarLife’s Search Settings
Optimizing your search settings allows you to find other members quickly and easily while preventing yourself from being targeted. When we tested CougarLife’s search, we found tons of matches. We then fine-tuned the search settings so that we could see profiles which were better-suited to exactly what we were looking for. Not bad, not bad at all!

Not only does CougarLife’s search allow you to search by age and distance, but also by the following attributes:

- Users that want to chat right now

Other search settings are hair colour, physique, eye colour, and ethnicity. These can all be entered directly into the search bar.
Click on any profile you come across that interests you. By clicking on it, you have access to the user’s public pictures and profile information. Now, you just have to contact them.

3.3 CougarLife’s Communication Settings
CougarLife has 5-6 ways for you to communicate with other users.

Sending a message
Many websites offer this option for users to communicate with other users that interest them. It’s actually the method we like best. What are the advantages, you may ask?
- It doesn’t matter whether the user is online or offline when you send it
- Their profile is visible in the message field, so you’re always sure who you’re chatting with
In the personal message, you can even ask to see their private pictures and send them a present.

Chatting
You can immediately chat with any person in real-time if they are online. Real-time chat is great for small talk and getting to know more about them and their life.
“Flirting”
On CougarLife, sending a “flirt” is like saying “hello” without actually sending a personal message. We don’t think this is the best way to start talking to someone. It’s more a way of saying, “Hi, I like your profile. Check out mine and if you’re interested I’d like to get to know you.”
“Gifting”
We are not so sure whether we like this feature or not. Sending a gift is really just sending a virtual present. Really, it’s just a picture of a present. We couldn’t really figure out how to use it in a way to gain another member’s interest, but we’re sure other members use them regularly.
Asking for access to Private Pictures
Although you might be able to access someone’s private photos just by asking, this probably won’t work in most cases. It will probably go smoother to ask for access to someone’s private pictures if you already have a connection with someone, or if you send the request along with a cute, funny message.
Sending VIP-Messages
If you send someone a VIP-Message, it will be at the top of the recipient’s mail box, and remain there even as they receive other messages. This feature will make you more noticeable and memorable to whoever you send it to.

Members can find answer to most issues they may encounter with CougarLife’s FAQ Page. It doesn’t really cover all the bases, so some work could probably be done in that department!
4.1 Customer Service
Throughout all of our evaluations we always get in contact with customer service to see how helpful the site’s team is.
CougarLife’s customer service team can be reached with the information they provide on their contact form. We were glad to see this feature and did follow through on testing the email they had on the contact form with some sort of made up problem. The team did get back to us within two days. So this was alright.
4.2 Exterminating a CougarLife Subscription
It’s important to watch for the expiry date on your CougarLife subscription, because if you don’t cancel it soon enough, it will be automatically renewed. Although this is a feature seen on many dating sites, we’re not really a fan.
Remember: If you’ve met enough Cougars/toyboys for the time being, cancel your Premium membership before it’s renewed.
It’s unfortunate that CougarLife makes the cancellation process of a Premium membership extremely tricky. We had to look into the issue extensively to cancel ours, so we’ll show you how to do it.

P.S. In order to make sure they can identify you and your profile, state the email address that you registered with at CougarLife.
We may have made the cancellation process sound lengthier than it actually is, but it’s really just not as easy as other dating sites make it. Past CougarLife members often say that their cancellation by phone and email was successful.
We still think that one of CougarLife’s biggest issues is the cancellation process, though. There is definitely room for improvement in this area.
4.3 Design and Ease of Use on CougarLife
Using Cougar Life is quite simple and straightforward. Users shouldn’t need much instruction to be able to use the site to its full potential. Profile loading errors do come up every once in a while though. This isn’t that big of a deal, it just minimizes the enjoyment of the Cougar Life experience a little. The design and colour palette are easy on the eyes as well, so navigating the site is a nice experience.
4.4 CougarLife's Mobile App
Not only is Cougar Life accessible from a laptop or computer, but there is also an app (English only) available for iOS and Android. This allows members to flirt while on the go. The app is well-designed includes all of the great functions that the desktop version has. We think the app is a wonderful addition to the overall Cougar Life experience.
4.5 CougarLife User-Friendliness Conclusion
5. Price-Performance Ratio
Like many other dating sites, a subscription on Cougar Life is automatically renewed if not cancelled soon enough. We’re not a fan of this. It’s definitely a con on the checklist. Cancellation also has to be made 3 days before the term ends, which we feel is fair.
You can still look around on Cougar Life without a premium membership risk-free – you just can’t communicate with anyone. To talk to a Cougar, you need to invest in a premium membership. We think that the premium membership is worth it however – Cougar Life has great profiles, settings, design, and features! And any large dating website needs to get their funding from somewhere.

Toyboys must have a premium membership to communicate with cougars at all. It costs money to use any function on the site for men.
